UCD Rugby Club
University College Rugby Football Club was founded in 1910. Granted Senior status in 1919, Andy Courtney became the first player from the Club to be capped for Ireland in that season. Since that time, 38 UCD players have represented Ireland while playing for the Club.
The most capped College player is the legendary second row Bill "Wigs" Mulcahy who is one of five UCD students who have taken part in British and Irish Lions tours.
Having won Division Three of the AIB all Ireland League this year the Club will play in Division Two for the 1999-2000 season.
The annual Colours match with Trinity College, which started in 1952, has been won by UCD on 26 occasions. Last year's win was the third in a row, the winning score being 37-21.
The two inter-university competitions were also won last year. The First team won the Dudley Cup by beating Trinity, UCC and Queens while the Under 20's won the Conroy Cup which was played on a festival basis in Galway.
Our group of the Students' European Rugby Championship was staged last year in Belfield. We recorded wins over Exeter University and the holders Toulouse University before bowing out in London to Brunel University. The coming season sees us in Scotland in a group with Glasgow University and Loughborough University.
